BIOGRAPHY:  

        At the time of the 1870 Census, Jennie was 3 years old, and living in Waterbury, New Haven County, CT(3-WD - Series: M593; Roll: 112; Page: 770), with her Father, Noble (43), who worked at the Powder Factory (?); her Mother, Elizabeth (37), her brother, Henry (15), who worked in a brass mill; and her sister, Ida (12), at home.

        At the time of the 1880 Census, Jennie was 13 years old, a student, and living at 34 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT (Series: T9; Roll: 103; Page: 8; District: 34), with her Father, Noble E. (53), a small brass goods manufacturer; and her Mother, Elizabeth (47). 

        Jennie married Octave Petitjean on 6 Jun 1888.  In the Waterbury, Connecticut Directories for 1889 and 1890, they were listed as living at 145 Grove Street, Waterbury CT.  Octave was a machinist, employed by the Tucker Manufacturing Company.  In the 1891 edition of the same directory, they were listed as living at 375 Grove Street, Waterbury CT.  George was employed as a machinist at the same company.

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Jennie was 33 years old, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 95; District: 426), with her husband, Octave (36), a toolmaker; her daughters: Mabel T. (11), and Hazel J. (5); her son, Clifford O. (9); and her Mother, Elizabeth Terrell (65), a widow. Two of Elizabeth's four children were still living.  

        At the time of the 1910 Census, Jennie was 43 years old, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 132; District: 481), with her husband, Octave (46), a foreman at the Brass Company, her daughters: Mabel T. (21), a teacher of shorthand, and Hazel J. (15); her son, Clifford O. (19), a draftsman; her Mother, Elizabeth Terrell (76), a widow (4 children, 3 living), born in MA; and Octave's nephew, Charles Petitjean (18), a machinist, born in England.

        According to the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1914, Jennie and her husband, Octave were living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, CT. He was a foreman at the Berbecker & Roland Manufacturing Company. Also living with them was their daughter, Mabel T., a teacher at the Waterbury Business College.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Jennie (52), was living with her husband, Octave (55), a nail machine foreman, at the brass factory; and daughter Hazel (25), a clerical worker at the brass factory; at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 195; Page: 36; District: 452).  Her son, Clifford, was married (to Leola Teller) and living elsewhere in Waterbury.  Her daughter, Mabel, was married (to George Moeller) and living elsewhere in Waterbury.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Jennie was 63 years old, a widow, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T626; Roll: 279; Page: 301; District: 235), with her son, Clifford O. (39), a draftsman at a factory; her daughter-in-law, Leola (40); her grandson, Robert C. (15); and her granddaughter, Betty L. (7).  

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1932, Jennie was listed as living  at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, CT, with her son, Clifford, and his wife, Leola.  Clifford was the chief draftsman for The Waterbury Farrel Foundry and Machine Company, at 453 Bank Street, Waterbury, CT.

BURIAL: Jennie is buried with her husband, Octave (d 26 Nov 1920), and his parents, George (d 15 April 1894) and Lucille Parret Petitjean (d 5 Mar 1890), in the Riverside Cemetery in Waterbury, CT. The family plot also includes Octave's sister, Laura (d 1937), and Octave and Jennie's granddaughter, Betty Petitjean McHugh (d 8 Dec 1985), daughter of son Clifford.

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Mabel was 11 years old, and living with her parents, Octave (36) and Jennie T. (33), her brother, Clifford (9), her sister, Hazel (5), and her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (65), at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 95; District: 426).  Father, Octave, was a toolmaker.  

        At the time of the 1910 Census, Mabel T. was 21 years old, a teacher of shorthand, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 132; District: 481), with her Father, Octave (46), a foreman at the Brass Company; her Mother, Jennie (43); her brother, Clifford (19), a draftsman; her sister, Hazel J. (15); her Grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (76), a widow, born in MA; and her cousin, Charles Petitjean (18), a machinist, born in England.

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1914, Mabel is listed as a teacher at the Waterbury Business College.  She was boarding with her parents, at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, CT.

George, Everett, and Mabel Moeller - 1921

        Mabel married George Moeller (b 23 Aug 1888, New York; d 8 Jan 1984, Fairhope, Baldwin, Alabama), in 1915.  His parents were from German Prussia.  

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Mabel was 30 years old, and living at 22 Wick Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (2-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 194; Page: 176; District: 441), with her husband, George (31), a hardware salesman; her son, Everett (3); and George's aunt, Elizabeth Moeller (57), a Prussian immigrant (1872).

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Mabel was 41 years old, and living with her husband, George Moeller (41), a commercial merchant of electrical appliances; and her son, Everett (13), at 51 Birchwood Avenue, Waterbury, CT (3-WD - Series: T626; Roll: 280; Page: 83; District: 243).

        According to the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1932, Mabel and her husband, George, were living at 51 Birchwood Street, Waterbury, CT. George was a salesman for the Beardsley & Wolcott Manufacturing Company.

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, of 1946, 1948 and 1960,  Mabel and George were listed as living at 51 Birchwood Street, Waterbury, CT.  George was a salesman in Cranston, RI.

BIOGRAPHY:  

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Clifford was 9 years old, and living with his parents, Octave (36) and Jennie T. (33); his sisters, Mabel (11) and Hazel J. (5); and his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (65), at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 95; District: 426). His Father, Octave, was a toolmaker.

        At the time of the 1910 Census, Clifford was 19 years old, a draftsman, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 132; District: 481), with his Father, Octave (46), a foreman at the Brass Company; his Mother, Jennie (43); his sisters: Mabel T. (21), a teacher of shorthand, and Hazel J. (15); his Grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (76), a widow, born in MA; and his cousin, Charles Petitjean (18), a machinist, born in England.

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1914, Clifford was listed as a draughtsman, living at 39 Elmwood Avenue, Waterbury, CT.  Clifford registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917.  At that time, he was married, had one child, and was living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, CT.  He was employed as a draughtsman by the Farrell Foundry and Machine Company, Waterbury, CT.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Clifford was 29 years old, a draftsman in a foundry, and living with his wife, Leola Teller Petitjean (29), and son, Robert C. (3), in Waterbury, CT (
5-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 195; Page: 258; District: 475).

        Clifford and Leola's daughter Betty was born on 20 Aug 1922.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Clifford was 39 years old, a draftsman at a factory, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T626; Roll: 279; Page: 301; District: 235), with his wife, Leola (40), his son Robert C. (15),  his daughter, Betty L. (7), and his Mother, Jennie L. (63), a widow.       

 

        In the Waterbury, Naugatuck, and Watertown, Connecticut City Directory, 1932, Clifford and Leola were listed as living with his widowed Mother, Jennie, at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, CT.  Clifford was the chief draftsman for The Waterbury Farrel Foundry and Machine Company, at 453 Bank Street, Waterbury, CT.

        After Leola's death in 1960, he married Mattie Whitney, and lived in Harwich Port, MA.

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Hazel was 5 years old, and living with her parents, Octave (36) and Jennie T. (33), her brother, Clifford (9), her sister, Mabel (11), and her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (65), at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 148; Page: 95; District: 426).  Father, Octave, was a toolmaker.  

        At the time of the 1910 Census, Hazel J. was 15 years old, and living at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T624; Roll: 141; Page: 132; District: 481), with her Father, Octave (46), a foreman at the Brass Company; her Mother, Jennie (43); her brother, Clifford (19), a draftsman; her sister, Mabel T. (21), a teacher of shorthand; her Grandmother, Elizabeth Terrell (76), a widow, born in MA; and her cousin, Charles Petitjean (18), a machinist, born in England.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Hazel was 25 years old, a clerical worker at the brass factory, and living with her parents, Octave (55), foreman of nail machines at the brass factory, and Jennie (52), at 143 Waterville Street, Waterbury, New Haven County, CT (3-WD - Series: T625; Roll: 195; Page: 36; District: 452).  

        Hazel married Amos E. Spriggs (b 24 Nov 1901 in NJ, d 27 May 1978 in Essex, CT) and their son Edwin A. (Ted) was born on 29 May 1927 (d 20 Aug 1975 in Middletown, CT).  Prior to their marriage, Amos had lived with his parents, Edward E. (b 1867 in NJ) and Hannah V. (b 1865 in NJ), and his sister, Grace V. (b 1909 in NJ), at 53 Reservoir Street, in Bethel, CT.  The Danbury and Bethel, Connecticut City Directory, 1921, listed Amos as a clerk at the Danbury and Bethel Gas and Electric Light Co.  His Father, Edward, was listed as a hatter. 

Amos Sprigg

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Hazel was 35 years old, and living with her husband, Amos E. Sprigg (29), and her son, Edwin A. (Ted), 3 years and 10 months old, at 88 Englewood Avenue, Waterbury, CT (5-WD - Series: T626; Roll: 280; Page: 179; District: 262).  Amos was an accountant for the gas company.

DEATH: Hazel was a resident of Essex, CT at the time of her death at the age of 74, on 21 Mar 1969, in Middletown, CT.
